How Much Does a Mobile Notary Cost in California?
The short answer: notarial fees plus travel
A California mobile notary quote usually separates the fee for the notarial act from the charge for traveling to your meeting location. California sets maximum fees for specified notarial acts; those limits are not a single price for an entire mobile visit.
Book CA Notary travel fees start at $25, plus applicable notarization fees. The travel charge can vary with location, timing, and appointment requirements. Mary itemizes the relevant charges so you can review the quote before confirming. The $25 starting amount is not a guaranteed total appointment price.
California notarial fee limits
The California Secretary of State’s 2026 Notary Public Handbook explains the statutory maximums under Government Code section 8211. Common examples include:
- Acknowledgment: up to $15 for each signature taken, including the certificate and seal.
- Jurat: up to $15 for administering the oath or affirmation to one person and executing the jurat, including the seal.
These are legal maximums, not a declaration that Book CA Notary charges the maximum for every appointment. Special rules and no-fee exceptions apply to some requests, including specified veterans’ benefit documents and voting materials. Identify the document when asking for a quote.
Do not estimate the cost simply by counting pages. The number of signatures, requested acts, and signers matters. A document with several pages may not require notarization on every page. Ask its recipient to identify the required acts if unclear.
What to include when asking for a quote
Send these details together so the quote reflects the actual visit:
- The exact meeting address and any parking or facility-entry instructions.
- Your preferred date and time, plus any flexibility.
- The document type and number of signers.
- The estimated number of notarizations, or explain that you need help coordinating the request with the recipient.
- Any witness needs or other appointment requirements.
Ask Mary to distinguish travel from notarial charges and explain any other proposed service charge before you agree. A new location, added signer, or changed requirements may call for an updated quote. Do not assume that witness provision, document preparation, filing, or loan-signing services are included.
See our mobile notary service for the appointment process. Book CA Notary does not select legal documents or determine the legal wording you need.
Common pricing questions
Is $15 the total cost of a mobile visit?
No. It is the statutory maximum for certain common notarial acts, not a universal mobile appointment price. Separately quoted travel can add to the appointment total.
Does a $25 starting travel fee include notarization?
No. Book CA Notary quotes applicable notarization fees separately from travel. Review the itemized quote before confirming.
Does an urgent or evening request have a fixed surcharge?
No fixed surcharge is stated here. Give Mary the timing and location so she can confirm availability and the applicable quote. Same-day service is not guaranteed.
Can I compare quotes fairly?
Ask each provider what the quote covers, how many notarial acts it assumes, and whether travel or additional services are separate. Compare the same appointment requirements.
Request an itemized appointment quote
Request a mobile notary appointment with your meeting address and document details, or call or text 916-770-1819. Mary confirms the appointment directly after reviewing availability and pricing. Submitting a request does not reserve a time.
