Hospital & Care Facility Notary in Sacramento & Placer Counties
Hospital & Care Facility Notary in Sacramento & Placer Counties
Mobile notary appointments for patients, residents and families at hospitals, rehabilitation centers, assisted living communities and care facilities.
When traveling to a notary is difficult or impractical, Book CA Notary can bring professional Mobile Notary service directly to the signer.
A Notary Who Comes to the Facility
Book CA Notary can meet the signer at many hospitals, rehabilitation centers, assisted living communities, skilled nursing facilities and other care settings. To request a visit, tell us the facility name and location, document type, number of signers, preferred appointment time and any visitor or access instructions. We will discuss scheduling and logistics before the notary travels. The appointment depends on facility access and availability; each facility sets its own rules.
Documents Commonly Presented for Notarization
Documents presented at a care facility may include powers of attorney, estate-planning papers, affidavits, acknowledgments, jurats, real estate or financial documents, and business documents.
This list is illustrative. The document provider or receiving organization should tell the signer whether notarization is required and which notarial act to request. A document’s category alone does not establish that it is ready or eligible for notarization. Book CA Notary does not prepare legal documents or choose the act for the signer.
Before We Travel to the Facility
Contact us with the facility name, location, signer information, requested appointment time and document type so we can plan the visit appropriately.
What to Confirm Before the Appointment
Before scheduling, confirm:
• The signer will be available to meet the notary.
• The facility permits the visit and you know its access procedures.
• The complete document is available.
• The signer has satisfactory evidence of identity permitted by California law.
• Any witnesses required by the document have been arranged.
• The signer can personally participate in the requested notarial act.
Facility staff can help coordinate access and logistics, but the notary must independently complete the legal requirements for the act.
Personal Appearance Is Required
California requires personal appearance before the notary for notarial acts such as acknowledgments and jurats.
Book CA Notary travels to the signer so the required in-person notarization can take place at the facility when appropriate.
An ordinary video call does not replace the physical personal appearance currently required for these California notarial acts.
Identification at a Hospital or Care Facility
The signer must establish identity using satisfactory evidence permitted under California law.
Because patients and residents may not always have their usual identification readily available, it is helpful to discuss identification before the appointment.
Contact us in advance if there are questions about what identification is available so unnecessary travel or delays can potentially be avoided.
The Notary's Role
A California notary verifies the signer’s identity and performs the requested notarial act according to California law. Book CA Notary does not provide legal advice, prepare estate-planning documents, choose a document or notarial act for the signer, make medical diagnoses, or determine a document’s legal effect. Questions about the document or legal decisions belong with the attorney, document provider or receiving organization.
Working With Families and Facility Staff
Family members, attorneys, social workers, facility staff and other representatives may help coordinate an appointment.
However, the signer must personally participate as required for the notarial act.
When scheduling, please provide any facility entry instructions, room or unit information, parking information and a contact person when available.

Hospital & Care Facility Notary FAQs
- Can a notary come to a hospital room?
Yes. Book CA Notary can provide mobile hospital appointments when facility access, signer availability and scheduling permit.
- Can you visit assisted living or skilled nursing facilities?
Yes. Mobile appointments may be arranged at assisted living communities, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers and other care settings.
- Does the signer need identification?
The signer must establish identity using satisfactory evidence permitted by California law. Contact us before the appointment if there are concerns about available identification.
- Can a family member sign for the patient?
That depends on the document and the authority the family member may have. A notary does not determine whether another person has legal authority to sign. Questions about signing authority should be directed to the document provider, receiving agency or a qualified legal professional.
- Can the notarization be completed through FaceTime or Zoom?
An ordinary video call does not satisfy California's current physical personal-appearance requirement for traditional acknowledgments and jurats performed by a California notary.
- Can hospital staff act as witnesses?
Witness requirements depend on the document, and facility policies may restrict staff participation. Arrange any required witnesses with the appropriate document provider or facility before the appointment when possible.
